Hon. Kobena Mensah Woyome leads National Youth Authority’s STEP initiative in South Tongu - PHOTOS

The member of parliament for South Tongu, Hon Kobena Mensah Woyome led a delegation from HO who came for the opening ceremony for Skills Towards Employability And Productivity (STEP) initiative through the National Youth Authority.

The objective of the program was to support people through enterpreunial skills. The government supported this initiative with equipment for all the 20 apprentices from South Tongu who will be learning under their various masters. Five (5) individuals each under hairdressing, Cosmetology, tailoring and technician will be nurtured over a period for them to become masters on their own. Government have already bear the cost of Ghs1200 and Ghs500 paid to masters before accepting them as apprentices which makes the initiative free.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Hon Kobena Mensah Woyome lauds the initiative and expressed his gratitude for the inclusion of South Tongu. “Madam Chairperson, I’m grateful for my constituency being part of this but let me still ask the Regional Director, I will always be Oliver Twist asking for more, the number is not enough hence I will plead with them to increase it for us because the constituency is very big. I will urge all the apprentices to learn and become masters on their own after the training. Be punctual so that you don't complete the training and still you can't fix anything you were thought”, he concluded.



The Volta Regional Director for National Youth Authority - Mr. Yaw Semorde couldn't stop praising the MP for his resilient effort in lobbying for his constituency to be part of this first face. “Be grateful to have such a person as your member of parliament because he lobbied us to make sure we selected South Tongu District”. The Volta Regional Director further asked the trainees to cooperate with their masters for a better teaching and learning process.



The event took place at the South Tongu District Assembly, Sogakope on 20th February 2023.
