I have never taken or received a bribe - Consul Alfred Agbesi takes on GLC

Business mogul Alfred Agbesi Woyome has come out to respond to claims he paid the wife of Lawyer Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh to influence proceedings in his favor.

According to a statement released by the General Legal Council (GLC) on 15th February 2024, the former honorary consul from Austria to Ghana paid an amount of Ghs400,000 to the account of Mrs. Gifty Nerquaye-Tetteh when his husband was acting as a counsel for the state.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday 16th February 2024, Consul Alfred Agbesi accused the General legal counsel of not doing their due diligence before drawing the line. “I have never taken a bribe in my life never have I given a bribe to anybody before”

Asked why he paid the money to the woman during that period, he replied that; I am a generous person and I have helped a lot of people including women. We were dealing with a representative of an institution hence I didn't know it was her until later. The request was also about somebody’s health hence I didn't hesitate to support when I was approached. As we speak, they have paid the money back and it was paid over a period. Do you bribe someone and let them pay back?”

Consul Alfred Agbesi Woyome further went ahead to state that he would sue the General Legal Counsel for dragging the families of Lawyer Nerquare-Tetteh unlawfully.

We patiently await the response of the General Legal Counsel on this statement if there is any.
