Alleged Tragic Suicide of Former Nogokpo Assemblyman Shocks Community

The community of Yelibato, located near Nogokpo in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta Region, is reeling from the distressing news of alleged suicide of Mr. Christian Kwame Amuzu, the former Assembly Member for Nogokpo-Ativuta Electoral Area. The 60-year-old's lifeless body was discovered hanging from a rope in his living room on the morning of June 14, 2023, leaving residents in a state of shock.

According to Madam Baby Amuzu, the wife of the deceased, there were no signs of trouble leading up to the incident. It was customary for Mr. Amuzu to drive their children to school each morning, but on that fateful day, he deviated from his routine and asked his wife to take the children instead, without providing any explanation. Madam Amuzu followed his instructions and returned home only to find her husband's lifeless body hanging in the living room.

Mr. Jonas Fotor Agbagba, the current Assembly Member for the area, expressed his disbelief at the tragedy. He had met with Mr. Amuzu just a day before the incident to discuss matters concerning the progress of the Electoral Area and the upcoming local Assembly elections. Mr. Agbagba was perplexed as to what could have driven the former Assembly Member to take such a drastic step, stating that Mr. Amuzu was deeply committed to the well-being of the community.

In light of recent tensions between the chiefs and people of Nogokpo and Archbishop Charles Agyinasare, the founder of the Perez Chapel International, some residents speculate that this may have played a role in the former Assembly Member's tragic demise. However, investigations by the Agbozume Police command are still underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The entire community mourns the loss of Mr. Christian Kwame Amuzu, remembering him as a dedicated public servant who worked tirelessly for the progress of Nogokpo-Ativuta Electoral Area. The deceased's body has been transported to the Sacred Heart morgue in Abor, where it awaits further examination. This devastating event serves as a reminder of the importance of mental health support and fostering a sense of community well-being.
