Armed Police Officer, 2 Others Allegedly Hijack Fuel Tanker On Accra-Kumasi Highway

In the Eastern region, it is said that a man in a police uniform with an AK-47 rifle and two other men in plain clothes stole a tanker truck full of fuel.

At about 9 p.m. on Thursday, January 12, 2023, a police officer on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at the Okanta stretch stopped the tanker with the registration number GT-8109-19 and 54,000 liters of gasoline. The tanker was headed from Accra to Kumasi.

But the driver, Isaac Abban, said that because he was going downhill, he couldn't stop quickly, so the police officer and his helpers followed him in a taxi.

The driver says the police officer got out of the taxi and told him to get down by pointing a gun at him in a "Rambo" style.

He said he begged the officer to get in the tanker so they could drive to the police station, but the officer said no.

He and his friend were arrested and put in a taxi, which took them to a house on the road instead of the Amasaman police station, as the officer had suggested.

The driver said that their cell phones were taken from them while they were in illegal custody.

The police officer, on the other hand, left two men in plain clothes behind the tanker vehicle, saying that they were there to protect it.

The alleged police officer let the victims go around 5:30 a.m. on Friday, but the tanker vehicle hasn't been found anywhere.

Also, the police officer has run away.

The driver thinks that the gang stole the tanker, so he told the Teacher Mante Police. The police are now looking into it.

Kwadwo Minta, who was there and saw what happened, said that the Ayensuano District Police Commander was there to help with the investigation.
