I have been put on money laundering list – Sam George

Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament representing the Ningo-Prampram constituency, has claimed that he has been included on a money laundering list due to his active opposition to LGBTQI rights. He expressed his concern about this development during an interview on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen programme. Mr. George explained that as a result of being on this list, he faces difficulties when attempting to exchange even a small amount of foreign currency during his travels abroad. He further disclosed that he has been accused of laundering money for Evangelical Conservatives in the United States.

Mr. George, along with other Members of Parliament, is at the forefront of the fight against same-sex relationships in Ghana. They have sponsored a 36-page anti-LGBTQI+ Bill that is currently under consideration by Parliament. In response to their efforts, various religious and civil society groups have rallied to support the passage of the bill.

The MPs who sponsored the bill have already expressed concerns about the intimidation they face, particularly from the international community. Mr. George shared his personal experiences during his travels, recounting how he was singled out and subjected to extensive questioning and delays when using his diplomatic passport. He mentioned that he either has to exchange foreign currency in Ghana or rely on the assistance of someone abroad due to his inclusion on the money laundering list.

Despite these challenges, the Ningo-Prampram MP remains undeterred and determined to ensure the successful passage of the bill. He emphasized that these adversities only strengthen his resolve, saying, "They don't know me well; those things give me hunger to pass this Bill. The more you try to break me, the harder I come at you."

In conclusion, Sam Nartey George, the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram constituency, has revealed that he is facing difficulties in exchanging foreign currency due to his inclusion on a money laundering list, which he believes is a consequence of his opposition to LGBTQI rights. Despite the challenges and personal experiences he has encountered, he remains resolute in his commitment to the passage of the anti-LGBTQI+ Bill, stating that such obstacles only serve to fuel his determination.
