Identity Card Chaos: Obroni's Video Slamming Ghana Government Goes Viral

A frustrated Caucasian woman expressed her strong dissatisfaction with the Ghanaian Government due to the considerable difficulties she encountered while obtaining a National Identification card.

Through a video she recorded of herself, the woman disclosed that she had already paid a substantial amount of money for a residential permit. Consequently, she found it unreasonable to be required to pay an additional hefty fee to secure a Ghana Card.

The young lady directly called out the responsible authorities overseeing the issuance of identity cards, accusing them of exploiting her and others.

She highlighted that many locals had to endure long queues lasting for hours before they could receive any assistance.

A few months ago, on June 11, 2023, the National Identification Authority (NIA) released a statement signed by Col. Peter Kwame Ghansah (Rtd), the acting Head of Corporate Affairs. This statement announced the operation of new registration centers alongside the existing Premium Centres at the NIA and CalBank Head Offices in Accra. These new centers would be located in Ashanti, Eastern, and Western Regional offices.

The statement outlined the services provided by the premium registration centers, including first-time registration and issuance of a Ghana Card for GH¢280, replacement of lost or damaged cards for GH¢110, and updating personal records requiring a new card for GH¢110.

Interestingly, it appears that some individuals are charging even higher prices for expedited services.

In conclusion, the woman's frustration sheds light on the challenges faced by both locals and foreigners when trying to obtain a National Identification card in Ghana. The disparity in fees and the reported exploitation raise concerns about the accessibility and fairness of the identification card issuance process.
