Not Even Akufo Addo Can Rig Election In Ghana - EC

The Director of Electoral Services, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has dismissed claims that elections can be rigged in favor of a candidate or political party. In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr Quaicoe confidently stated that even prominent leaders like Mahama or President Akufo-Addo would not be able to rig an election. According to him, the electoral system has safeguards in place to prevent any manipulation, and the Electoral Commission (EC) boss is the final authority to oversee the results.

These statements from Dr Quaicoe come in response to allegations made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The NDC has accused the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the EC of colluding to add the name of Charles Opoku to the Voters Register in the Assin North constituency. The intention behind this purported illegal action is to enable Mr Opoku to participate in the NPP Parliamentary primary for the upcoming Assin North bye-election. Sammy Gyamfi, the Communications Officer of the NDC, claimed that their sources revealed Mr Opoku's registration as a voter in the Tarkwa Nsuaem constituency in the Western Region, where he voted in the 2020 general election.

However, Dr Quaicoe dismisses these allegations as baseless. He insists that they lack any substantiated evidence and should be disregarded. He further rebuts the claims of vote transfer, emphasizing that the electoral system has measures in place to prevent such acts of manipulation.

In conclusion, the Director of Electoral Services, Dr Serebour Quaicoe, firmly asserts that elections in Ghana cannot be rigged, and the EC has implemented safeguards to ensure their integrity. The allegations made by the NDC regarding the registration of Charles Opoku and the conspiracy between the NPP and the EC are deemed unsubstantiated and without merit.
