Serial Phone Thief Caught Sleeping in Church Theft Attempt

A man named Saheed Abioye, also known as Anini, has been apprehended by the police in Osun state for his alleged involvement in multiple phone thefts. During his arrest, he was paraded before the media by the Anti-Cultism Squad of the Osun State Police Command. Abioye admitted that on the day he was caught, he had visited a church in the Alekuwudo area of Osun state with the intention of stealing phones from the worshippers during their vigil service. However, his plans were foiled as he fell asleep during the vigil and woke up only after it had ended, realizing he hadn't stolen anything.

Abioye recounted his failed attempt, stating that he arrived at the church around 10:45 pm and sat at the back, patiently waiting for an opportunity to steal phones from those who would be charging them at the back of the church. However, fatigue overtook him, and he dozed off soon after the vigil began. He only woke up around 3 am when the vigil had already concluded, and people were leaving the premises. Disappointed by his lack of success, he left the church empty-handed.

As fate would have it, on his way home in the Alekuwodo area, Abioye encountered a police patrol vehicle along with some anti-cultism operatives from Dugbe. They stopped him and conducted a search, but found no incriminating items. Doubting his story, they decided to take him back to the church to verify his claims. The pastor, however, stated that he did not recall seeing Abioye in the church, leading to his subsequent return to the Dugbe Police Station. His video was recorded and shared with other stations, where officers who had previously arrested him identified him as an expert in phone theft. Abioye admitted to being involved in the theft and sale of over 18 phones across different parts of the state, clarifying that phones were his sole target, not cars or motorcycles.

The police command has announced that Abioye will be promptly arraigned in court to face charges related to his alleged criminal activities.
