Tragic Incident: Man Takes His Own Life in Sefwi Asawinso

In a heartbreaking incident in Sefwi Asawinso, a suburb of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality in the Western North region, a man believed to be in his late 50s has sadly taken his own life. The reasons behind this tragic event remain unknown. Speaking exclusively to UTV News, the landlord of the deceased shared some details about the man, Mr. Bukari. He mentioned that Mr. Bukari had been away from the house for some time, seeking medical attention for his illness from his two sons who live outside Sefwi Asawinso.

After spending several days with his sons, Mr. Bukari returned home on Sunday, June 18, 2023. However, according to the landlord, Mr. Bukari's behavior upon his return indicated that he wasn't in good shape. In the early hours of Monday, around 5 am, the landlord discovered the devastating scene. While entering the kitchen to fetch a broom for sweeping, he came across Mr. Bukari hanging himself with a sponge. Concerned for the well-being of Mr. Bukari's wife, who had suffered a stroke, the landlord chose to inform Mr. Bukari's son, Walisu, instead.

When UTV News's Western North Regional Correspondent arrived at the scene and examined the kitchen, he found that the deceased had used a mortar used for pounding palm nuts as a platform to hang himself. Tied with a sponge, Mr. Issaka Bukari pushed the mortar away, taking his own life. Walisu Bukari, one of Mr. Bukari's sons who also lives with a disability and resides with his father, expressed shock and disbelief. He stated that his father had not shown any signs of contemplating suicide and had only mentioned being unwell after returning from his elder brother's place the day before.

The incident has deeply saddened the community, and Joe, a Unit Committee Organizer, emphasized the need for increased awareness and education. He highlighted that this was the third occurrence of such a tragic event in Sefwi Asawinso, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and supporting our loved ones who may be going through challenging times that could lead to such desperate actions.

In conclusion, the community of Sefwi Asawinso is left mourning the loss of a man who took his own life. The reasons for his decision remain a mystery, leaving his loved ones and the community in shock and grief. This unfortunate event serves as a reminder of the importance of supporting and watching over our family and friends during difficult times. It is crucial that we come together as a community to raise awareness and provide assistance to those who may be silently struggling.
