After Kufuor, Will Political Maradona Allotey Jacob, Also Beg Mahama

Allotey, Bernard Since President John Agyekum Kufuor departed the Ghanaian presidency in 2001, Jacob's inner guilt has haunted him. However, he has now reconciled with it. Allotey openly admitted that he had lied against the former Ghanaian leader and was therefore pursuing an opportunity to meet with Mr. Kufour so that he could offer an unqualified apology.

In fact, the former President granted him an audience, during which Allotey poured out everything that had been afflicting and consuming him for so long. And despite Mr. Kufuor's assertion that he owes the former Central Regional chairman of the NDC nothing, Allotey implored with the ex-president to go public with his apology, which the ex-president did.

Allotey's (Allotey) insistence rested on the premise that the heavens would only absolve him if the former president came clean. The confession of Allotey exemplifies the belief, held by some, that the majority of our political leaders indulge in character assassination and demonic lies against their opponents in order to gain political power.

In certain instances, the political class has referred to such conduct as'mere politics,' implying that, in the name of politics, libel against anyone is permissible without recourse to the law. Such a belief has acquired traction in our political system.

Often, politicians who lie against their opponents are defended by their colleagues or, when their lie is questioned by a court of competent jurisdiction, they resort to the cliche, "It's political talk." The integrity or reputation of the targeted individual or group may have suffered irreparable harm in the interim.

Former Central Regional Minister Ama Benyiwa Doe alluded to the "political talk" mantra in response to a member of the Parliamentary Vetting Committee's request for clarification on some of the outlandish and bizarre allegations she made on radio talk show programmes when her party—the NDC—was in opposition.

Former Central Regional Minister Kwamena Duncan acknowledged that some of the allegations he made against NDC officials while the NPP was in opposition were unfounded and should therefore be deemed part of the open political discourse.

Again, the stage where he confessed the "political talk nonsense" was the chamber of the Parliamentary Vetting & Appointment Committee, where he was requesting approval to become the Central Regional Minister.

As early as this year, Kennedy Agyepong, the Member of Parliament for Assin Central, apologised to former President Mahama for the blatant lies he spread about Mr. Mahama in the run-up to the 2020 elections. In the interim, Ken Agyepong accomplished the goal of those fabricated falsehoods, which was to ensure that Mahama lost the 2020 presidential election.

Today, many NDC members accuse Allotey Jacob of betraying the cause of the NDC; the party that provided him with a political home to the point where he rose through the ranks to become chairman of the NDC in the Central Region.

The man who wishes to be known as the political fisherman committed "political genocide" in the run-up to the 2020 general elections when he publicly supported President Akufo Addo's bid for a second term against his NDC party and its candidate, John Dramani Mahama.

At a time when the NDC required experienced communicators such as Allotey Jacob, he became the de facto spokesman for Nana Addo and his vice president, Alhaji Dr. Mahmudu Bawumia. Even more, he has begun to advocate for Bawumia's nomination in the forthcoming NPP presidential primary.

Some political analysts believe that the negative propaganda spread by NDC stalwarts Allotey Jacob and Koku Anyidoho affected John Mahama and the NDC's performance in the most recent election.

Allotey chose issues with NDC officials such as Aseidu Nketia and Ofosu Ampofo on purpose in his usual propaganda piece, which ultimately had a significant impact on John Mahama's 2020 election chances. It was merely a matter of targeting the surrogates of the former president's allies, and John Mahama's chances will always be diminished.

The political Maradona, Allotey Jacob?

For the majority of Ghanaian political observers, Allotey's reversal does not come as a surprise, as "that has been his political forte" Some political commentators assert that the individual who calls himself the educated fisherman betrayed Dr. Limann and his third Republican administration when he was a member of the People's National Party's (PNP) youth wing.

Dr. Limann did not enjoy much support from his own PNP members, particularly the youth league. Limann was accused of impersonating someone else. Alhaji Imoro Egala was accused of unilaterally imposing Dr Limann's candidature on the PNP in the absence of consensus.

Allotey Jacob and other members of the PNP's youth organisation levelled a hostile criticism at Egala and Dr. Limann. The relative of Dr. Limann was Alhaji Egala. The hostility shown by the Allotey cadre youth towards Limann paved the way for the Rawlings military takeover in 1981.

Fourth Republic Allotey Jacob's political activities

At the start of the Fourth Republic, numerous Nkrumaist parties arose. These were the National Independence Party (NIP), led by Kwabena Darko; General Erskine's People's Heritage Party; and the National Convention Party (NCP), whose leadership was cast into disarray at the very outset of its formation.

Additionally, there was Dr. Limann's People's National Convention (PNC), which was viewed as the PNP's legitimate successor. Despite its fundamental outlook, the PNC was unable to recruit other Nkrumaist organisations.

Allotey Jacob joined the NCP, the leadership of which, despite having Nkrumaist leanings, were also active members of the PNDC, the military administration that subsequently transformed into the NDC party.

John Tettegah, Captain Kojo Tsikata, Comrade Ebo Tawiah, and Faustina Nelson, among others, were among the (P)NDC serving members who joined the NCP. In fact, the true nature of the NCP was revealed when Allotey Jacob, along with the known (P)NDC members, smuggled the NCP into the Progressive Alliance of the NDC and the EGLE party.

As it became apparent that Allotey Jacob was becoming irrelevant to the cause of the Progressive Alliance, he quickly joined Dr. Obed Yao Asamoah and Faustina Nelson to form the Veranda Boys and Girls in order to once again become relevant to the NDC, which had severed its alliance with the NCP and the Egle party.

Despite this, Allotey's voice in the NDC did not carry much weight until he found a political ally in Prof. John Atta Mills, the NDC presidential candidate at the time who subsequently became president of the country. Allotey's political career was revived when he immediately became Mills' protégé.

Allotey was appointed chairman of the Central Regional branch of the NDC, where he oversaw the NDC and Mills' 2012 electoral victory. The death of Professor Mills, however, caused him to recoil.

Even so, Allotey still enjoyed some degree of recognition under President Mahama, as he was appointed to various committees. Under the pretence of a statesman, Allotey is currently carrying out the wishes of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and President Akufo-Addo; however, many individuals are aware of Allotey's affiliation with the NPP.

Allotey disclosed that former President Mahama betrayed him after the 2020 elections, revealing why he campaigned for the New Patriotic Party. According to Allotey, Mr. Mahama told some Fante caucus members that he and Allotey were not friends, a claim that Mr. Mahama and his office have categorically refuted.

Expect Allotey to alter his support for the candidature of Vice President Bawumia, claiming that his support for the VEEP stems from his personal relationship with Alhaji Mumuni Bawumia, the father of the Vice President. This is Allotey Jacob, a propagandist who admits that the majority of his statements are false. He began as a Nkrumaist, later joined the NDC, and is currently an ardent supporter of the NPP. A political MARADONA, to be sure.
