Ambitious Information Minister Allegedly Dodging Giv’t Scandals

The location of Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah in the wake of government scandals has not escaped notice.

Some government and non-government officials who have closely followed the Information Minister's activities since at least 2021 infer that the ambitious Ofoase Ayirebi MP may be avoiding communication on the numerous controversies affecting the government and government officials.

Some claim the Minister may be attempting to "appear clean" by avoiding direct communication about the government's numerous scandals.

Following the theft of millions of Cedis, Dollars, and Euros from the residence of now-former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Dapaah, the government has been subjected to severe assaults and criticism over the past few days.

Also, Boakye Agyarko, a candidate for the New Patriotic Party's presidential nomination, recounted alleged incidents that occurred during the renegotiation of the 250-megawatt Ameri Power Plant when he was the Minister of Energy.

Boakye Agyarko alleged in an interview with Kumasi's Asanteman FM that New Patriotic Party (NPP) stalwart Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko renegotiated the Ameri agreement without the approval of the government-appointed committee.

Randy Abbey delivers a powerful blow

Dr. Randy Abbey, renowned broadcaster and presenter of the Good Morning Ghana programme on Metro TV, questioned the government's silence on the Ameri deal allegations made by the former Minister of Energy, Boakye Agyarko.

Dr. Abbey questioned why the government has not responded to the severe allegations made by a former cabinet minister who is also a presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), which implicate President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

"Mr. Boakye Agyarko revives the Ameri issues by making significant revelations and accusations against the president, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, and other individuals. I have not yet seen or read the government's response. We have not yet received a response after approximately two weeks. In fact, he was the campaign manager for the then-candidate (Akufo-Addo), is a senior member of the NPP, and has been vetted and authorised to run for president.

"He is saying these things while pointing to the president and others and mentioning their names. We are aware of the controversy surrounding this entire Ameri transaction, including the issue of executive approval... corruption, insider trading, and others. Now this individual makes all of these accusations, and it seems as if no one wants to speak with them," he said. He added that the government's silence on the former energy minister's allegation is comparable to President Akufo-Addo's years-long disregard for the illicit mining report by the former Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation. "... What are we to conclude from that? Are we expected to embrace what he said as the truth and live accordingly? Or, if he is spreading falsehoods, shouldn't something be done?
