E/R: ECG Records Another Transformer Theft In Kade

Unidentified criminals who stole ECG electric transformers have relocated to Kade.

The criminals tampered with one of the transformers in the Akyem Kade region, specifically Boma farms, according to ECG.

The incident has rendered the entire supply area without electricity.

Electricity company of Ghana (ECG) transformers have become a target for criminals in the Eastern region.

In numerous communities throughout the region, the phenomenon is growing.

The thieves pose as ECG technicians 24 hours a day, seven days a week to pilfer copper coils from transformers under the guise of repairing them.

After draining the oil, the suspects first detonate the high-voltage transformers and then pulverise them to extract the copper coils.

The majority of the suspects are electricians who commit the crimes alongside other accomplices who keep watch and help transport the stolen coils.

Some of the incidents have been reported in the ECG districts of Koforidua and Suhum, causing disruptions in the affected areas.

Abraham Lincoln, the Eastern Regional Commercial and Marketing Manager of ECG, verified this in a message to Assembly members and community leaders in the Eastern region, urging them to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious individuals who approach ECG transformers.

According to him, ECG employees are uniformed and identified, and the majority drive company-branded vehicles; therefore, any deviations must be reported promptly.
