ECG Revenues Soar Digitally

During the 2023 National Development Conference hosted by the Church of Pentecost in Gomoa Fetteh in the Central Region, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia discussed the Electricity Company of Ghana's (ECG) remarkable revenue growth. Prior to the company's operations being digitised, ECG had consistently generated GH450 million per month for four years.

However, this constant figure prompted concerns, prompting the government to investigate the company's revenue structure. Despite an increase in consumers, Dr. Bawumia expressed disbelief at the stagnation of revenue. Upon closer inspection, it was discovered that ECG personnel had thwarted the efforts of a government team to solve the problem by using malware.

With National Security's assistance, the issue was ultimately resolved, resulting in ECG's monthly revenue soaring to GH1.2 billion. Dr. Bawumia emphasised that the government's ongoing digitization efforts have substantially contributed to Ghana's economic development and decreased corruption.

In spite of initial opposition to certain digitization processes, such as the paperless port system, people are now more receptive, and the benefits have become evident. The Vice President emphasised that digitising institutions will aid in combating corruption and enhancing citizen services.

Dr. Bawumia assured Ghanaians at the conference that the government is committed to bringing relief to the people and stabilising the economy, especially in the wake of the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Dr. Bawumia praised the Church of Pentecost for organising the conference, emphasising that living morally ethical lives is essential to national development and encouraging responsible behaviour, including loan repayment. Speakers at the event included the Speaker of Parliament, the Chief Justice, former President John Agyekum Kufuor, former Minister of Women's Affairs of Zimbabwe, and the National Chief Imam's Spokesperson.
