Education Minister Replies NAGRAT President

The Deputy Minister of Education has refuted claims made by the President of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) that teachers and school administrators have lost the authority to discipline and control disobedient students.

Reverend John Ntim Fordjour has stated that the assertions are completely false.

Tuesday, in response to a viral assault video from Adisadel College, the president of NAGRAT, Angel Carbonu, stated that student disobedience is on the rise because school administrators and instructors no longer have the authority and authority they once did.

According to him, this has rendered them incapable of addressing school discipline issues.

However, the Deputy Minister stated on Asempa FM's Ekosii Sen that the only item that had been abolished in schools was corporal punishments.

He explained that it was due to the accumulation of unfortunate incidents over the years.

"Over the years, there have been reports of students going blind, falling ill, dying, and a great deal more due to the use of canes by their teachers." Should we therefore enable this to continue?

The Deputy Minister, who is also the Member of Parliament for Assin South, stated that he cannot comprehend why anyone would assert that teachers are incapable of disciplining pupils.

"What authority have we taken away from instructors besides the ability to cane students in order to prevent injuries and illness, among other things?

"Corporal punishment is not the only way to correct students, especially in this generation," he remarked.

Rev. Ntim Fordjour emphasised that the function of school teachers cannot be overlooked, adding that it is significant in the education sector.

He admonished, "Enforcing and supervising our children is a shared responsibility."
