Professor Ransford Gyampo, a senior lecturer and political scientist at the University of Ghana, has harshly criticised President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for making statements that could compromise the ongoing investigation into the scandal involving former Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Abena-Dapaah.
In accepting the resignation of the former minister, the President stated, "Your integrity will be fully established during your time in office."
He added that the President's optimism for the exoneration of those under investigation is a recurring theme.
It should not originate with the president.
However, he commended the former minister for making such a courageous decision to resign.
She spared herself and the president from criticism that would have been levelled against the president, who would not have heeded calls to dismiss her, he stated.
On Monday, July 24, 2023, agents from the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) searched the residence of the former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources.
