Minority To Push For A Probe Into GHC1.2Billion Contract Supply Tablets To Students

Minority Chief Whip Kwame Agbodza has raised a red flag regarding the extension of a GHS1.2 billion contract to supply schools with tables.

He stated that the sum in question is enormous and can be used for other beneficial objectives for the nation.

“…And we believe that the expenditure of GH1.2 billion is a substantial quantity that can help this country.

The Adaklu lawmaker told TV3's Komla Kluste, "Parliament will institute the necessary motions to call for an investigation into these acts of the supply of the tablets whose details are shrouded or known only to the Education Minister and the government because this is not the best way to run a transparent government."

During his address at the inauguration of the 2023 Annual New Year School and Conference (ANYSC) on January 17, 2023, at the University of Ghana, Legon, the Vice-President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, announced that the government will distribute free electronic tablets to all Senior High Schools in Ghana this year.

Minority offered nothing new; press conference was late - Oppong Nkrumah

According to him, the initiative, along with the nationwide implementation of free WI-FI in SHSs, was part of the government's ongoing digitalisation agenda.

Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister of Education, informed him that the country was on track to provide tablets pre-loaded with textbooks and examination questions.

"We are on track to provide all Senior High School students in Ghana with tablets loaded with textbooks for their studies this year." This is a significant game-changing development. We will have previous queries preloaded on these tablets that will be distributed to everyone, and I pray that this year it will come to pass... Dr Bawumia said.
