Most Wasteful Expenditure - Kwakye Ofosu Blasts Akufo-Addo Over National Cathedral Project

Former Deputy Communications Minister Felix Kwakye Ofosu has criticised the National Cathedral project as ostentatious and wasteful.

He stated, "No one can persuade me the project is a priority. Instead of focusing on such wasteful expenditures, we must address more pressing matters."

According to him, the government's allocation of resources to this endeavour demonstrates an inability to govern the nation effectively.

Kwakye Ofosu exclaimed, "I was astounded when Akufo-Addo said the project is his top priority," questioning the President's decision to position the National Cathedral above other pressing issues. "Basic things such as settling arrears of government workers could not be accomplished, but their priorities are irrational," he added, implying that the government prioritises political gain over prudent investment.

He emphasised that the government must target essential areas and prioritise the nation's most pressing requirements.

Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, member of parliament for North Tongu, joined the crusade against the National Cathedral project, exposing alleged corruption at the National Cathedral Secretariat.

Mr. Ablakwa disclosed that GH2.6 million was improperly paid to a company owned by Rev. Victor Kusi Boateng, a board member of the cathedral. In the midst of a number of controversies, he expressed concern over the project's ballooning costs, which have reached nearly $400 million.

Mr. Kwakye Ofosu offered a remedy to the project's escalating costs by urging the government to undertake drastic cost reductions.

He emphasised the significance of adjusting priorities in order to guarantee responsible financial management and more prudent investment decisions.
