Samson Lardy’s Thought-Provoking Question To Cecilia Dapaah

Samson Lardy Anyenini, a private attorney, has questioned the validity of former Sanitation Minister Cecilia Dapaah's claim that the quantity of money allegedly stolen from her residence contradicts media reports.

According to him, the case's charge document has already been amended twice, so he cannot comprehend why the embattled minister did not make any changes she deemed necessary.

"Typically, when you file a complaint with the police and they are about to file your charges in court, they will enable you to proceed despite the possibility of errors.

"It is also possible that these errors will be discovered after the case has been filed in court, but once their attention is attracted to it, the necessary corrections will be made. In this instance, the charge sheet was amended on 5 July and again on 20 July, so what inconsistencies is the former minister referring to?" he asked on the Adom FM programme Dwaso Nsem.

Madam Dapaah has been in the news since Friday, when it was revealed that her two housemaids, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, as well as three others, are being prosecuted for the theft of large quantities of money and personal items.

According to the charge document, a "cash sum" of $1m (£780,000), 300,000 euro ($333,000), and 350,000 Ghana cedis ($30,000), in addition to other personal items including handbags worth $35,000 and jewellery worth $95,000.

The 68-year-old has contested the court document's figures, but the revelations have enraged many Ghanaians.

Mr. Lardy has stated, however, that he will not be surprised if the former minister decides to amend the indictment to reflect that the quantity stolen is only $1.

"If she wants to come out today and say that this is the amount I reported missing, that is her business, but the details are very clear on the charge sheet." Except that the police will be blamed because it will appear as though they are not doing their duties properly due to the numerous changes," he said.

In the meantime, the Office of the Special Prosecutor detained Cecilia Dapaah on Monday for alleged corruption and corruption-related crimes.

According to reports, members of his family have also been detained for interrogation.
