Two Fishermen Dead In Clash With Navy Officers At Tema Newtown

Two fishermen died at Tema Newtown while fishing during the closed season, according to reports.

Isabella Gidiglo of Adom News reported that the incident occurred on Thursday morning.

According to reports, the deceased were among 12 men who were requested to go fishing for an annual ceremony by traditional authorities.

Unfortunately, while they were on the water, some naval officers who were also on patrol allegedly rammed their vessel into their canoe for no apparent reason, claiming they were intruders.

According to the fishermen, the impact caused the canoe to capsize, forcing the inhabitants into the water.

Ten of them were able to swim to shore and save their lives, but two were not so fortunate.

In an interview, a representative of the Traditional Council conveyed regret over the incident.

Due to their ceremony, he disclosed the Fisheries Ministry was aware that some men fish during the restricted season.

The fishermen, outraged by the murder of their colleagues, stated that they expected the officers to behave more professionally.

Instead of attacking them, they should have been brought ashore for interrogation about their presence at sea, according to them.
