Violent Adisadel Student Appears Before Cape Coast District Court 2, Case Adjourned

The Adisadel College student seen in a viral video physically manhandling, choking, and assaulting a fellow student appeared today, July 28, 2023, before the Cape Coast District Court 2 to face charges of assault and causing injury, but the case had to be postponed due to an incomplete panel.

The hearing will now take place on Wednesday, August 2, 2023.

The suspect was arrested by Cape Coast police earlier this week, cautioned, and charged with causing bodily injury and assaulting a coworker.

The video in which a student is seen violently assaulting and strangling a classmate prompted immediate action from the school, the Ghana Education Service, the Ministry of Education, and the Ghana Police Service.

For failing to support the matter, the school dismissed the suspect and suspended the victim. However, the Deputy Director of Education intervened to reverse the victim's suspension. Since his recall to school, he has received the necessary medical and psychological care.

The housemaster of Quaque House, where the incident occurred, was removed from his position pending further investigation. As soon as he learned about the viral video, the headmaster admitted that he had fallen short of expectations.

The video has reignited impassioned debates about bullying in senior high schools and how to combat it. Some have advocated for the abolition of the boarding school system for senior high schools, claiming that it would help permanently eliminate abuse.
