We Don’t Want To Be In Conflict With OSP - Attorney-General Explains Why It Isn’t Probing Source Of Dapaah’s Cash

Alfred-Tuah Yeboah, Deputy Attorney-General, stated that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is investigating the origin of the funds kept by former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources Cecilia Abena Dapaah at her residence.

Consequently, the Attorney-General is not conducting an investigation into the origin of the funds.

Mr. Tuah-Yeboah stated that the Attorney General desires no conflict with the OSP.

Speaking on 3FM's Hot Edition on Tuesday, July 25, he stated, "We do not know the extent of the police's investigations into the origin of these sums. However, we are aware that another statutory body, the OSP, is investigating additional aspects of the matter. Therefore, we will avoid situations in which we would be in conflict with the OSP.

"The OSP is charged with investigating the origin of these funds and conducting a lifestyle investigation.

"We are also reviewing what the police have done thus far to determine if we can use their actions in our prosecution or not."

He added that the Attorney General is currently evaluating the police reports on those who allegedly stole Madam Dapaah's money.

Mr. Tuah-Yeboah stated on the Ghana Tonight Show on TV3 on Tuesday, July 25: "The Attorney-General will review the docket to determine whether there is a basis for the prosecution or whether additional charges are required in addition to what we already have."

After Mr. Daniel Osei-Kuffour and Ms. Cecilia Dapaah reported a theft to the police, the police launched an investigation, arrested some suspects, recovered some of the stolen items, and arraigned the suspects in court.

Since then, the Police have forwarded the case file to the Attorney General's Office and Ministry of Justice for review and advice.

Abena Dapaah tendered her resignation on Saturday, July 22, less than twenty-four hours after the public revelation of her theft.

Accepting her resignation, President Akufo-Addo praised the former Bantama representative's "excellent and productive" performance.

"It is with great regret that I accept your resignation, and I commend your dedication to the reputation and image of the government," he wrote in a letter dated Saturday.

"The work you performed during your time in government was excellent and fruitful, and I appreciate your unwavering commitment to the advancement of the government and the nation."

In her resignation letter, Madam Abena Dapaah assured all state agencies of her availability and cooperation to investigate her case, which she admits has become a "hindrance" to the government at this "crucial" time.

In her resignation letter, she added, "I have no doubt that at the conclusion of the processes it will be determined that I conducted myself with integrity during my time in public service and that I will be fully exonerated of all the allegations."

In addition, President Akufo-Addo expressed confidence that "in the end, your integrity while in office will be fully established."

The theft of $1 million, €300,000, and millions of unspecified Ghana Cedis has been brought before the court. The recall is scheduled for Wednesday, August 2.
