Analyzing the sing-a-thon regulation from the Guinness World Record

Joy Entertainment breaks down some of the guidelines for the game as Ghanaian event planner Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum gets closer to shattering the record for the longest singing marathon for an individual.

(1) Applicants who are 16 years of age or older may apply for this record title.

(2) All of the songs that are sung during the attempt ought to be identifiable and performed to a fair level. The Guinness World Records has the last say on this.

(3) There can be no breaks in singing—only brief ones lasting no longer than 30 seconds—between songs.

(4) The duration of each performed musical item must be two minutes or more.

(5) No musical work may be performed again in a four-hour period. Only four hours can pass between song repeats.

(6) The applicant may take a twenty-minute break after four hours or a five-minute break every hour.

(7) Jamming or improvising is prohibited.

(8) Candidates may or may not have an escort. No musician may perform unaccompanied for longer than four hours; they must then take a minimum of four hours off.
(9) Following the attempt, all songs performed must be kept up to date and included in a playlist that is submitted with the claim.
