Famous eighteen-year-old criminal stabs imam to death when the imam forbids him and his group from smoking Indian hemp close to the mosque.

Yusuf Haruna, also known as Lagwatsani, is an 18-year-old notorious thug who was detained by the Kano Police Command for the needless murder of Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, a well-known imam.

In a statement released on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa Haruna, the command's spokeswoman, said that Haruna, of the state's Dala Local Government Area, fatally stabbed the cleric with a knife after the latter attempted to stop him and his group from smoking Indian hemp near the mosque.

In the statement, it stated that on December 31, 2023, at approximately 1930 hours, a report was received from Musa Yunusa,'m' of Jakara Quarters Kano. On the same day, at approximately 1900 hours, the said Yusuf Haruna attacked and stabbed one Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, a 45-year-old man,'m' of the same address, while performing ablution, merely because the victim had warned him and his gang to quit smoking Indian hemp near the mosque grounds.

The victim suffered severe injuries as a result, was sent to Murtala Muhammad Specialty Hospital, where the physician pronounced them dead.

"Our officers have been working nonstop to find and apprehend the attacker since the incident, which rocked the neighborhood. Our steadfast dedication to upholding the dignity of life and providing justice to those impacted by such horrible acts is demonstrated by this arrest.

The PPRO went on to say that CP Mohammed Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, gave the public assurances about the Command's intention to carrying out exhaustive investigations into the situation.

"We will also put forth great effort to gather credible evidence to guarantee the arrestees' successful prosecution,"

"Our goal is not only to apprehend those responsible but also to act as a warning to others who might consider committing similar crimes."
