Black Queens qualify for WAFCON 2024 in Morocco

The Black Queens have qualified for the next edition of the Women's African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) to be staged in Morocco.

Despite suffering a 1-0 defeat on Tuesday in the round 2nd leg qualifier against Namibia at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria, South Africa, the Black Queens secured qualification 3-2 on aggregate.

This comes after coach Nora Hauptle's side secured a convincing 3-1 victory over their opponents in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium last Friday.

Tuesday's loss marked Nora Hauptle's first defeat as head coach of the senior women's national team after 11 games in charge.

The Swiss trainer made two changes to the starting team in the first leg as Stella Nyamekye and Ernestina Abambila were given the nod ahead of Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu.

Cynthia Konlan maintained her place in goal while Vivian Adjei Konadu and Doris Boaduwaa partnered up front.

Captain Portia Boakye, Anasthasia Achia, Jennifer Cudjoe, Susan Ama Duah and Azumah Bugre were all named in the line up.

The Queens will play in the continental showpiece for the first time since it was hosted in Ghana in 2018.
