Asantehene answers concerns about potential rivalry between the Gas and Ashantis.

Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, refutes claims of rivalry between Ashantis and the Ga community.

He asserts that there is no animosity, as both groups historically united.

These comments were made during a visit from Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, who informed him of the passing of the Ga State Queen Mother, Her Royal Majesty Naa Dedei Omaadru III, on December 26, 2022, in Accra.

Otumfuo noted his positive relationship with the late Ga Mantse, Boni Nii Amugi II, and a similar bond forming with his successor, Nii Teiko Tsuru II.

“I had a good relationship with Nii Amugi. When I was young, I used to visit him at Abelekpe when I stayed at Alago. I also somethings went to the palace at Kaneshie to visit him… I even visited him at the hospital when he was sick.

“I saying all this to let you understand that Gas and Ashantis are united, there is no enmity between us. My brother who has now taken over (the Ga Mantse) and I are also having a good relationship… We are continuing the good relationship we have had,” he said in Twi.

On Thursday, September 7, 2023, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, formally conveyed the news of the passing of the Ga State Queen Mother, Her Royal Majesty Naa Dedei Omaadru III, to Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

Her Royal Majesty Naa Dedei Omaadru III had passed away on December 26, 2022, in Accra.

To fulfill this solemn duty, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II dispatched a delegation consisting of some of his sub-chiefs to provide official notification to Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, while also discussing the arrangements for her funeral.

Opemsuo Radio, based in Kumasi, shared a video capturing the interactions between the Ga Mantse’s delegation, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and his entourage at the Manhyia Palace.

A member of the delegation invited Otumfuo to sign the book of condolences for the late queen, which had also been signed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In his remarks, Otumfuo expressed gratitude to the Ga Mantse, whom he referred to as his brother, for the thoughtful gesture and the invitations extended. He also conveyed his condolences to Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II and the Ga community.
