CAF Confederation Cup: Dreams FC defeat Kallon to reach group stage

Dreams FC defeated FC Kallon 3-2 on aggregate to advance to the 2023–24 CAF Confederation Cup group stage.

The Ghana Cup champions conceded late on Saturday to tie the Sierra Leonean team in Liberia at 1-1, but they still advanced.

The 2-1 victory in the first leg at the Accra Sports Stadium two weeks ago by Dreams FC, who are taking part in the competition in Africa for the first time, was sufficient for their qualifying.

After Asante Kotoko under CK Akonnor in 2019, Dreams FC is the first Ghanaian team to participate in the Confederations Cup group stage since that year.

After successfully converting a penalty three minutes in, Agyenim Boateng Mensah gave the visiting Dreams the lead.

At the unbiased Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Liberia, the Ghanaian team managed to hold on and enter halftime with a one-goal edge.

The hosts tied the score with a penalty in the seventh minute of extra time as Karim Zito’s team appeared to be winning.

Ghana will have two teams in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup group rounds for the first time since 2006.

In order to advance to the Champions League group stage, Medeama also defeated Horoya 4-3 overall.
