The Finance Minister controls all economic decisions in Ghana, so I can't be held responsible for a catastrophe. — Alan

Former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen has disclosed that decisions concerning the economy of Ghana were taken by the Finance Minister when he was part of the government and Cabinet.

He revealed cabinet members could just make suggestions, but the final decision rests in the bosom of the Finance Minister, whose responsibility is to manage the economy.

“What I am saying is that the Minister of Finance is in charge of the economy. I can only make a contribution. The final decision depends on him. I cannot take responsibility for decisions made by the Finance Minister. So if you say I was in government and things went south, I cannot answer for that,” he said on Accra-based UTV.

Alan Kyerematen announced his resignation from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on September 25, 2023.

The decision, according to him, is because his services are not needed by the political party.

“Under the circumstances and given the context provided, I wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections, as an Independent Presidential Candidate,” he said in his speech.
