Why Nollywood actors beg for public assistance when they’re sick – Patience Ozokwor

Veteran Nollywood actress Patience Ozokwor has explained why her coworkers who suffer from chronic illnesses need for help from the public.

According to her, despite their high salaries, some actors choose to seek public assistance when they become ill because their opulent lifestyles make it impossible for them to save money for themselves.

The renowned actor added that family members and friends put a lot of financial pressure on performers.

She made the point that performers are no longer compensated for illness, which is why they are determined to apply for government funding to cover their medical expenses.

Ozokwor recently talked in an interview, a clip of which KWS Nigeria posted on Tiktok.

"Some of us [actors] get paid well, but nobody helps you before this sickness gets because everyone thinks you're rich," the actress remarked. And you're dealing with your family when you're sick. Additionally, when you're in that sick bed, no one pays you anymore. Because you can only make money filming movies when you're in good health. You've been ill for a while, and all of the money you had saved was used up.

As you are aware, we are extravagant spenders due to the nature of our work. The world is affected by what you wear. Packing is what we call it. The manner in which you presented yourself. The worst part is that your pricey wardrobe is unrepeatable. These are the items that lead to our excessive spending. Then, because they see your face everywhere, people jump on you and assume you are wealthy. I am aware of the number of people that have come to our house today in need of assistance.
