Jamaica Makes History At The Women's FIFA World Cup

The Jamaican female national team aka Reggae Girlz has just made history at the ongoing Women’s World Cup.

The Reggae Girlz has just eliminated Copa America's current champions, Brazil, from the FIFA Women's World Cup.

It is now safe to say that the Jamaican women's national team came to play and not to participate only.

During the group stages, Jamaica held off European giants, France in a tough draw.

They also made history by recording their first-ever win at the World Cup by beating Panama.

The team now needed a point in their last game against Brazil to progress to the next round of the competition.

And they clearly did not disappoint as they held Brazil to a 0-0 draw to advance to the knockout stages.

This is such a great achievement by Jamaica considering the fact that they were disbanded in 2008.

Jamaica got back into action when Cedella Marley, daughter of the late Bob Marley, raised funds of $100,000 to restart their football program.

Thanks to Cedella Marley, Jamaica qualified for its first-ever Women's World Cup in 2019.



Now here they are in 2023 having qualified for the knockout stages of the Women's World Cup for the second time asking.



Also, Jamaica needed crowdfunding to help get to the Women's World Cup due to a lack of support from the JFF.



They are now the first Caribbean nation to ever advance through the group stage of the Women's World Cup with no goals conceded.

Their star player, Bunny Shaw, who plays for the English side Manchester City, was in tears after the match.
