WATCH: Christian Atsu’s wife breaks down in tears in heartbreaking video of his tribute

Christian Atsu's wife, Marie-Claire Rupio, was in tears as Newcastle and Liverpool paid tribute to the late footballer at St James Park on Saturday.



The Ghana International, who previously played in the Premier League, was confirmed dead on Saturday morning after his body was discovered 12 days after he went missing following Turkey's devastating earthquakes.

Before Newcastle's match against Liverpool, both sets of players and fans held a minute's applause in his honor.

The match in Tyneside was attended by Atsu's wife Marie-Claire Rupio and two sons.

The widower wept visibly, while the children applauded as fans sang their father's name around the stadium.
