AFCON 2023Q: We have to win against Central Africa Republic – Chris Hughton

Chris Hughton believes that the Black Stars have no choice but to secure a victory over Central African Republic (CAR) if they are to secure a spot for their squad at the Africa Cup of Nations in the following year.

Ghana was unable to secure early qualifying to the continental showcase after playing out a disheartening draw against Madagascar in their last game of the qualifications. This result meant that Ghana did not succeed in securing early qualification.

Despite controlling the most of the ball during Sunday's match in Antananarivo, the Black Stars could only manage a scoreless draw with their opponent.

Due to the fact that the game ended in a tie, it is imperative that Ghana secure a point against CAR in order to qualify for the AFCON that will be held in the following year.

Hughton addressed the media following the conclusion of the game and said, "Our strategy for the next match is to win." We are now playing at our house. We are aware that we need to get the outcome, and since it's a game, we certainly know what will happen if we aren't successful.

"From this point on, we will take a break. It will be necessary for the players to report back to their respective clubs, at which point they will begin preseason action, and we will get ready for the game scheduled for September. We are missing a few participants today, but we are keeping our fingers crossed that those individuals will be able to join us in September.

"We will be going into yet another difficult game against Central African Republic, and we have to win."

Even though they tied, the Black Stars are still in first place in Group E as a result of Angola's 2-1 victory over the Central African Republic earlier on Saturday, June 17.
