After Eight Years In Prison, Gregory Afoko Was Acquitted

Mr. Gregory Afoko and Asabke Alangde were acquitted of murdering the former Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) by an Accra High Court officiated over by Justice Afua Merley Wood, a Justice of the Court of Appeal.

On Thursday, April 27, 2023, Justice Afia Merley Wood, a Justice of the Court of Appeal, summarized the approximately four-hour-long trial that spanned eight (8) years.

The seven-person jury presiding over the murder trial of Gregory Afoko and Asabke Alangde had retired after finding both defendants not guilty.

Afoko and Asabke Alangdi are on trial for conspiracy to commit murder and the alleged 2015 murder of Alhaji Adams Mahama, the Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Since their detention, the two have pleaded not guilty to the charges against them pending a decision on Thursday.
