Akufo-Addo commissions building which will serve as the new home for the Department of Psychiatry at the Korle-Bu

The newly constructed building, which will serve as the new home for the Department of Psychiatry at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, was commissioned by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023. This event took place at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

"This impressive structure," which serves both the University of Ghana Medical School and Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, stands as a tribute to the memory of Squadron Leader Melody Danquah, a woman who made history as the first female military pilot in sub-Saharan Africa in the 1960s. The president said that the building, which serves both institutions, stands as a tribute to the memory of Squadron Leader Melody Danquah.

"Her story serves as an inspiration not only to those living with mental illness, but also to those who persevere, thrive, and achieve their fullest potential in life," Mr. Akufo-Addo said. "Her story serves as an inspiration not only to those living with mental illness."

A conference room, student lecture hall, faculty research offices, a tranquil waiting area that is favorable to teaching and learning, trendy consulting rooms, therapy rooms, a treatment room, a pharmacy, and an observation room are all located within The Melody.

This building is a wonderful representation of the harmonious collaboration that exists between public organizations and the business sector.

It demonstrates what can be accomplished when professionals from the commercial sector sit down with those from the public sector and the public sector becomes aware of the obligations it bears.

"And this partnership then deepens the Government's commitment to advancing mental healthcare in Ghana," Mr. Akufo-Addo stated.
