Akufo-Addo, other African and Caribbean leaders to headline Afreximbank’s 2023 Annual Meetings in Accra

Akufo-Addo will be one of the featured speakers at the 30th Annual Meetings of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), together with other prominent African and Caribbean individuals.

The meetings take place from June 18 to June 21 in Accra.

President Akufo-Addo and Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados will be among a group of prominent leaders, including heads of state and government and past heads of state, according to a draft schedule that has been made public.

At the Afreximbank Annual Meetings (AAM2023), speakers from other political parties, corporate titans, practitioners of African trade, trade finance professionals, academics, and senior public figures are expected to address attendees.

Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a former president of Nigeria, Dr. Donald Kaberuka, a board member of SouthBridge Group and a former president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Wamkele Mene, the secretary general of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, and Ambassador Albert Muchanga, the commissioner for economic development, trade, industry, and minerals for the African Union Commission are among the additional speakers who have been confirmed.

Others include Dr. Vera Songwe, Board Chair of the Liquidity and Sustainability Facility, Antonio Pedro, Acting Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Strive Masiyiwa, Founder and Executive Chairman of Econet Global and Cassava Technologies, Arnold Ekpe, Former Group CEO of Ecobank and Chairman of the Business Council of Africa and Baobab, David Coffey, CEO of the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers.

Ahmed El Sewedy, president and chief executive officer of Elsewedy Electric of Egypt, Oussama Kaissi, president and chief executive officer of the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit, Florie Liser, president and chief executive officer of the Corporate Council on Africa, Kayode Pitan, president and chief executive officer of the Bank of Industry of Nigeria, Hani S. Sonbol, president and chief executive officer of the International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation, Simon Tiemtore, chairman

Delivering the vision: Building prosperity for Africans is the main theme of the four-day AAM2023, which will include keynote addresses, panel discussions, plenaries, and fireside chats about African trade, trade finance, and development issues, including the AfCFTA's implementation.

Building Prosperity for Africans: The Challenges of Peace and Security, What Would It Take for Africa to Feed Itself—Overcoming Challenges of Food Security for Sustainable Development in Africa, Building Prosperity: African Culture and Literature as a Foundation for African Renaissance, Delivering the Vision—Corporate Perspectives, and The Future of Integration in Africa are some of the topics listed for discussion.

The advantages of strong continental financial institutions, a shared vision for Africans' prosperity, and other topics will be covered in other sessions. Strengthening Interconnectivity between Africa and its Diaspora for Shared Prosperity: A New Middle Passage by Africans for Africans; Realizing the Vision of PanAfricanism Across Generations, from Parents to Children; fresh opportunity for inclusive growth through sport; Reflections from Africa and the Caribbean on Historical Lessons as Opportunities for the Future; Delivering prosperity through industrialization, utilizing intra-African trade and industrialization based on commodities, utilizing science and technology in the digital age; Using African and Caribbean Resources for Sustainable Development: Monetary Authorities' Perspectives; The two books are Thirty Years of Making a Difference: Reflections from Former Presidents and Unlocking Capital to Deliver Prosperity for Africans.

Business and political leaders, members of the banking industry, experts in trade and trade finance, and other participants in economic growth from all across Africa and beyond attend Afreximbank Annual Meetings.

The Meetings are covered by the African and worldwide media, and have been called one of the most significant gatherings of economic decision-makers in Africa.
