Arrangements secured for Takoradi-Agona Nkwanta double-lane road – W/R Minister

Western Region Minister Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah has announced that the provision for the construction of a double-lane road from Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta has been solidified.

In the same way that there was widespread mistrust regarding the construction of the road from Tarkwa to Agona Nkwanta, an elated regional minister indicated that there will also be skepticism regarding his announcement.

"However, I can assure the Region with absolute certainty that I was in Accra only yesterday to solidify the final arrangements."

Kwabena Okyere Darko Mensah made the announcement at the Media unveiling of the 6th Ghana Hotels Association Awards and Hotel Business forum in Takoradi on the topic of 'Sustaining the Hotel Industry in Ghana Post-Covid-19'.

The road from Takoradi to Agona Nkwanta is 28 kilometers long. It links Ivory Coast by connecting the Ahanta West Municipality to the region's mining district and two other assemblies.

The road is also a vital gateway to some of the region's pristine beaches, hotels, and tourist destinations.

Unfortunately, years of neglect have resulted in life-threatening ruts in several areas.

It is a nightmare to traverse sections including the Apremdo Traffic Light, St. Mary's, and Aboade.

Commuters, including market women and proprietors of hospitality businesses, have bemoaned the negative impact of the road's deplorable condition on their economic well-being.

The regional minister affirms that the government remains committed to rehabilitating the roadway.

"The second most important aspect is that our son from the region will complete the project," So he cannot let us down. There is a great deal of interest in completing the road, and I can assure you that it will be completed because of what I know and have been able to do."

The regional minister urged hospitality industry stakeholders to organize their efforts in partnership with others to develop the Ghana hotel brand through marketing, a national HR database, quality service, and a mentality shift that aligns their actions with their mission.

Some proprietors of hospitality centres dotted along the stretch are optimistic that the project will be completed so that the region's attractive tourism sector can generate sufficient revenue.

"Furthermore, when the road is completed, many people from all over the world will be motivated to visit the region to see what it has to offer in terms of tourism, and this will also increase the region's visibility. There are numerous beautiful locations to visit in the area. However, due to poor roads, none of these regions are receiving any attention."
