Ashanti NDC Opens Nominations in 10 Additional Constituencies; Adansi Asokwa Put on Hold

The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has opened nominations in ten of the eleven remaining Ashanti Region constituencies in advance of the party's parliamentary primaries. The Functional Executive Committee (FEC) of the party had previously postponed the process to resolve all outstanding grievances in these constituencies.

This increases the number of cleared constituencies for holding parliamentary elections to 46.Dr. Frank Amoakohene, regional secretary of the NDC, informed Asaase Radio that all grievances and issues have been resolved.

He indicated, however, that the election process for Adansi Asokwa is ongoing."They are no longer pending; ten of them, excluding Adansi Asokwa, have been released," stated Dr. Amoakohene.

"They've already chosen their nominees; they have until Friday, April 28 to submit them, and we'll vet them on Monday, May 1."According to him, interested candidates are anticipated to submit their nominations by the 28th of April to allow for screening on the 1st of May 2023."Therefore, by May 13, we would have elected candidates for all 46 constituencies in the region, with the exception of Adansi Asokwa."

We are undertaking research in that constituency, which is incomplete, and we will be guided accordingly", he elaborated. On May 13, the NDC will select presidential and parliamentary candidates in advance of the general election.
