Bola Tinubu to be sworn in today

General Muhammadu Buhari will step down as president and be succeeded by Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu as president-elect of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

On Monday, May 29, he will be sworn in at a ceremony in Abuja, the nation's capital.

After defeating Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) and Atiku Abubakar of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the February elections, the former governor of Lagos claimed victory. The two have subsequently filed a lawsuit challenging the election's results.

Bola Tinubu will take the oath of allegiance to become the future president of the most populous country in Africa despite this.

Many were concerned that the new president's trip to Europe shortly after his victory was part of a cycle initiated by the departing president, Buhari.

Buhari's ongoing trips to the UK for medical treatment had become a worry to citizens, some calling for his resignation at time.

Therefore, Tinubu’s travel a few weeks after the elections became a cause of worry for most Nigerians.

“The president-elect decided to take a break after the hectic campaign and election season to rest in Paris and London, preparatory to going to Saudi Arabia for Umrah (Lesser Hajj) and the Ramadan fasting that begins Thursday,” a statement in March said.

Many dignitaries are expected to attend the swearing-in.
