Bryan Acheampong bans consumption animals found dead in Binduri, U/E

Bryan Acheampong, Ghana's Minister of Food and Agriculture, has disclosed plans to take preventative action against the further spread of anthrax in the country.

This comes after it was confirmed that there was one case in Binduri, which is located in the Upper East Region.

If prompt action is not taken, however, the authorities are concerned that there may be a significant increase in the number of cases of widespread diseases.

"In order to prevent the disease from spreading further, the Ministry [of Food and Agriculture] has decided to implement the following steps to ensure the public's safety:

"Limiting the movement of animals within the Binduri district, as well as preventing their entry and exit from the area.

Animals in the affected areas are going to be vaccinated in mass numbers.

"Ban on the consumption of animals found dead from the affected areas," said the statement that was released by Mr. Acheampong.

"The public is further advised to observe vigilance, purchase meat from only certified abattoirs, and promptly report animal deaths to the nearest veterinary unit or health facility in the affected area," "The public is further advised to observe vigilance, purchase meat from only certified abattoirs,"

The public was reassured that "all necessary steps to contain the disease" were being taken by the organization.
