Canadian company to launch ground-breaking app to revolutionize land mgt in Ghana

Landano International, a company based in Canada, has committed to removing obstacles from Ghana's land management system.

Land administration has been a significant issue in Ghana for many years, causing numerous conflicts and other social vices.

In 2016, research conducted by Ebenezer Ankomah Gyamera, PhD, revealed that land cases constitute approximately 59 percent of all court cases in Ghana, with an average annual increase of 25 percent.

Unsettlingly, only 10% of these cases are resolved annually (Ebenezer Gyamerah, Land Conflicts in Ghana: Causes, Effects, and Solutions, 2016).

The findings also concluded that the transfer of land to multiple proprietors is the leading cause of land disputes.

In light of this, Landano International has developed a robust mobile application that monitors and reports details of land in real time.

Nana Kwadwo Safo, Ghana's Community Ambassador for Landano, explained at a stakeholders summit with Adansi chiefs at Adansi Asokwa in the Ashanti Region of Ghana that an in-depth study has been conducted to comprehend the problem at hand, and he is optimistic that their robust system will put these issues to rest.

"Our primary objective is to reduce conflicts associated with land management." Our team of experts, after extensive research and deliberation, has developed a platform that enables landowners to manage and track their lands on their phones without traveling. This will assist traditional leaders in determining who owns what land and prevent the sale of a single plot of land to multiple buyers.

He added that Landano will collaborate with the Lands Commission and the Department of Stool Lands to ensure that land disputes become a thing of the past through the use of their cutting-edge application.

The gathering was attended by the Chief Marketing Officer of Landano, Dan Junior Amankona, who emphasized the significance of transparency and collaboration.

He stated, "Our unity here today is motivated by our shared affection for Ghana and its people." Collaboration with such visionary leaders is truly a privilege and a blessing. As the son of the chief of Kato, a community in the Bono region, I am intimately familiar with the difficulties chiefs face in their efforts to advance their communities. At Landano, we take pride in valuing the insight of chiefs and their constituents, and we aim to develop a sustainable land management system for Ghana. Our model will ultimately facilitate the linkage of chiefs and proprietors to international funding opportunities that will assist in the economic and community development of Ghana."

The Enthusiasm Of Nananom

Nana Adu Gyamfi III, Gyasehene of Bodwesango in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, characterized the day as one of the proudest of his life. He stated that the ability to administer, monitor, and trace land on a mobile phone is novel and something he would enthusiastically embrace. He believes that this innovation is a game-changer and will unquestionably end land disputes.

RTI: No public office, not even National Security, is exempt - Executive Secretary Nana Akwasi Buaben, who is also the Gyaasehene of Adansi Dompoase, mentioned that for years, Nananom all over Ghana have had problems managing their lands, especially with setting of boundaries, but with the assurance and training given, he's optimistic that this problem will be a thing of the past. He took advantage of the opportunity to laud the Landano team and pledge support for the endeavor.

Dr. Isaac Osei Boahen, manager of the Adansihene Stool Lands, stated on behalf of the Stool Lands Secretariat that his office will benefit tremendously from the initiative. He believes that boundary issues that lead to numerous conflicts will be resolved, resulting in an increase in revenue.

Stool lands account for approximately 80% of Ghana's land holdings, but have been afflicted by:

Lands sold or registered fraudulently
Lack of coordination in land administration
Uncertain landlord-tenant agreements
Lack of formalization and registration of leaseholds and others.

The Landano team believes that these issues can be resolved by implementing its web3-based, blockchain-based records management system for land administration.

Landano launched its innovative prototype project in March 2022, concentrating on community outreach in the rural Ashanti region, particularly in the town of Hiawu Besease. Their accomplished Chief Geospatial Engineer, Abdul Razak, led this ground-breaking initiative with his extensive experience and unique expertise. The initiative centered on land management systems, utilizing technology to enhance precision, openness, and efficacy. It aimed to establish a balance between modern methods and traditional practices by incorporating elements of local knowledge, cultural norms, and legal requirements. This comprehensive effort aimed not only to improve the productivity and sustainability of the land, but also to empower the local communities by incorporating them directly into the process. The ultimate objective of this groundbreaking work was to serve as a model for similar initiatives in other rural regions, thereby substantially contributing to the broader economic development of Ghana.

Chiefs from the Adansi Fomena division, Adansi Dompoase division, and Bodwesango division were present at the summit.

The entirety of the endeavor is anticipated to be released shortly.
