Cecilia Dapaah saga: We requested dockets due to amounts and complainant involved – Deputy A-G

Alfred Tuah Yeboah, Deputy Attorney-General, has explained the A-G'sOffice's decisionto request the docket in the Cecilia Dapaah case involving her alleged stolen millions.

According to Mr Tuah Yeboah, the amounts and complainant in the case are compelling reasons for the A-G to investigate the dockets.

Even if the police have done a good job, he believes there should be recourse to the A-G'soffice.

"We will not criticize the Police for their efforts thus far." However, when they prosecute on behalf of the Attorney-General, they are required under certain conditions to submit dockets to us for review, andin this particular case, given the nature andamount involved, and the complainant involved and the interest of the public, it is appropriate that the dockets are submitted to us.”

Godfred Yeboah Dame, the Attorney General, is expected to issue advice on the Cecilia Dapaah scandal in the coming days.

This is due to the Ghana Police Service forwarding the case docket to the Attorney General.

"Following a case of stealing reported to the police by former Ministers for Sanitation and Water Resources Daniel Osei-Kuffour and Cecilia Dapaah, the Police initiated investigations into the case, arrested some suspects, recovered some of the stolen items, and arraigned the suspects in court."

"Police have since forwarded the docket to the Attorney-General's Officeand the Ministry of Justice for review and advice," the Ghana Police Service said in a statement.

However, a number of Ghanaians have voiced their disagreement with the judgement that was made by the A-G.

According to Dr. Justice Srem-Sai, a Senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law at GIMPA and Managing Partner at Praetorium Solicitors, the ensuing outrage is entirely warranted.

According to Dr. Srem-Sai, the justification relies on precedents that have been established by the Attorney General's office.

According to him, the Attorney General's office has not been able to make any headway in previous cases of this nature despite their involvement.

When you tell us that it is because of the person involved, then people have a right to think that you are in the process of doing what you typically do even though you deny it. "When you tell us that it is because of the person involved,"

Remember that this is not the first time that a public figure has been involved in something that raises questions about the possibility of criminal activity.

What information has been uncovered from any of them? There is not really a result that people were expecting. Therefore, when you go again and you ask for the docket, then individuals are allowed to say, on the basis of their memory and experience, that they are headed to that direction again," he also commented on Newsfile.
