Dutch veteran Martin Koopman appointed as Hearts of Oak head coach

Martin Koopman, a Dutch coach, has been named Hearts of Oak's head coach for the upcoming season.

This decision was based on a suggestion from fellow Dutchman Rene Hiddink, who was appointed technical director in July.

On Thursday, he was introduced to the players at the preseason training program in Pobiman. Koopman expressed his commitment to instilling a new mentality and nurturing a positive attitude with the players. His objective is to restore the club's former grandeur.
Koopman replaces Serbian coach Slavko Matic, who succeeded underperforming Samuel Boadu early last season. However, Matic's tenure was cut short by angry fans, and the Phobians finished the season under the interim leadership of David Ocloo.

The 67-year-old Koopman is prepared to revitalize the performance of the former Ghanaian champions thanks to his vast experience. As the new season approaches, the team is expected to compete for the championship with renewed vigor.

Koopman has an impressive coaching resume, having coached teams such as RKC Waalwijk and Al-Nassr. Koopman will head Hearts of Oak against Real Tamale United in their first competitive match in the upcoming 2023/24 Ghana Premier League season opener, a contest of immense significance.
