After several months of not being compensated, Rotation Nurses who began their Rotation in July 2022 will shortly be paid.
This comes after the Ministry of Finance granted sanction to the Controller and Accountant General to pay allowances to approximately 16,559 Rotation Nurses and Midwives and Allied Health Interns across the nation.
"By this letter, the Controller and Accountant-General's Department is requested to effect the payment of their allowances and make appropriate deductions of Social Security and Income Tax to SSNIT and the Domestic Tax Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), respectively," the Ministry of Finance wrote to the Account General's Department.
In May 2023, the Rotational Nurses And Midwives Association (RNMA) urged its members to maintain composure as the organization's leadership took the necessary measures to pay their allowances.
This followed an unannounced visit by the association to the Ministry of Health (MoH) on Thursday, 18 May 2023.
Since being deployed by the National Service Secretariat (NSS) in June 2022, the Rotational Nurses had not received any allowances.
