Galamsey In Ghana Is Like Cocaine In Mexico And Colombia; It's An Entire Cartel - Presidential Aide

Director of Local Government Services in the Office of the President, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has stated that the fight against galamsey is a cartel that cannot be defeated lightly."In Ghana, galamsey is comparable to cocaine in Mexico and Colombia; it is a cartel."

It requires many years of hard work, many years of dedication, many years of education, and many years of attempting to alter the attitudes of the people in these areas; without these things, it does not matter how hard we fight in Galamsey; we will not prevail.

According to him, the government realized before the 2020 election that it was losing the war against the canker. He claimed that the NDC exploited the struggle against galamsey for political gain."It is a fact, there are videos, audios, and texts, the National leadership of the NDC went to mining sites and into galamsey pits and took videos telling 'galamseyers' they won't stop them when they come to power," he said, pointing out that Kweku Boahen and Dr. Kwabena Nkansah-Ansah were among those who participated.

Tony Aubynn was included in the video.Even former president John Dramani Mahama gave them assurances that all illegal miners apprehended would be released and allowed to work, he said.According to him, the NPP suffered catastrophic losses in mining communities as a consequence of the NDC Executives' actions."What we need in the fight against galamsey is not NDC writing a petition to CHRAJ, but NDC going back to the people and telling them galamsey is evil and whether you vote for us or not, we will stop galamsey"Hear him in the attached audio file.
