Ghana Wasn't Paradise Under Me But Things Were Better - Mahama

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate for president, John Dramani Mahama, has bemoaned the current hardship in Ghana.

According to him, the Akufo-Addo administration has lead Ghana to ruin.

Speaking to party delegates in the Bodi Constituency of the Western North Region during his campaign tour, Mr. Mahama, who is seeking a comeback, stated that even though the Akufo-Addo government has borrowed nearly GHS500 billion since taking office in 2017, less than GHS10 billion of that has been channeled into the much-touted but "poorly implemented" Free SHS initiative, resulting in the poor food served to students in school.

Mr. Mahama stated that Ghanaians are demanding the return of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) because they have realized that President Nana Akufo-Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party have destroyed every positive thing he left them.

During the NDC administration, the Produce Buying Company purchased 30% of the cocoa produced by farmers, according to Mr. Mahama, "but I'm not sure they purchase more than 3% today."

Also, he stated that the Tema Oil Refinery performed exceptionally well under the NDC, but ceased operations in 2017 when President Akufo-Addo assumed office.

"Consequently, Ghanaians are now clamoring for the NDC to return to power," he stated.

Mr. Mahama acknowledged that "Ghana was not paradise under me, but at least things were better" than under the Akufo-Addo administration, when contrasted to the suffering Ghanaians are experiencing.

As a consequence, Mr. Mahama emphasized, Ghanaians long for the return of the NDC.

"Everywhere I go, I am presented with a stone of justification. Some individuals even light lanterns during the day and illuminate them in my direction. "They say they are looking for me because they are sorely dissatisfied with the NPP government's abysmal performance, which stands in stark contrast to the enticing campaign promises they made in 2016," Mr. Mahama noted.

"Therefore, I am confident that victory awaits the NDC."

He accused Mr. Akufo-Addo of borrowing so much money without producing any tangible results.
