Ghana to earn $6.6bn annually from lithium when mining starts in 2026

Adib Saani, a security analyst, has called for more efforts to ensure mining industry security.

"Even though we benefit economically and financially from the mining sector, there are numerous challenges that must be addressed." There is also the danger of explosives intended for the mining industry being diverted to other sources.

"Ghana continues to be a logistics hub for terrorists, and on several occasions, vehicles filled with explosive-making materials that are suspected to be coming from the mining sector have been impounded in other countries such as Burkina Faso and Mali, only for investigations to reveal that they had come from Ghana."

"Operating in challenging environments" was the theme of the West African Mining Conference.
