Awards and recognition in the music industry can provide artists and their followers with a sense of validation and pride.
However, not all moments on stage are greeted with jubilant applause, as Fameye recently revealed following the conclusion of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
The "Praise" hitmaker was disappointed that he did not win the 'Songwriter of the Year' award, which he believed he merited.
In an interview with Andy Dosty, Fameye was candid about his sentiments regarding the outcome.
He acknowledged that while awards can sometimes be regarded as "bragging rights," the disappointment rests in the fact that fans emotionally invest in their favorite artists and expect them to win.
"Sometimes your fans become dissatisfied because they want to be sitting somewhere and bragging about you," Fameye stated candidly.
Fameye competed in the 'Songwriter of the Year' category alongside notable artists such as Black Sherif, Diana Hamilton, Ewura Abena, Piesie Esther, and Perez Muzik. Perez Muzik emerged victorious in the end, leaving Fameye and others to deal with the disappointment of failing to capture the title.
Fameye disclosed his expectations by stating, "If I don't win, Piesie Esther will probably take it." Despite the anticipation, Perez Muzik was the recipient of the award.
Interestingly, Fameye admitted that he hadn't heard the song that garnered Perez Muzik 'Songwriter of the Year' until after the winner had been announced. Upon hearing the winning composition, he acknowledged recognizing its merit and understanding why it resonated with the audience.
"I wasn't even familiar with that Perez tune. I learned of it only after he was declared the victor of the category. But I believe he merited it because the song sounded good when it was played in the auditorium," admitted Fameye.
