I don’t think Alan will do well at all as an independent candidate – Ben Ephson

Ben Ephson, Managing Editor of the Daily Dispatch newspaper, has encouraged former Trade and Industry Minister Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen not to try to go independent.

He believes Mr. Kyerematen will fare poorly as an independent candidate in the 2024 elections.

Alan Kyerematen announced his retirement from the process to elect the 2024 flagbearer on Saturday, November 4 in a letter to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Tuesday, September 5.

In the first round, the Super Delegates' Conference, he finished third, trailing Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Assin Central Member of Parliament (MP) Kennedy Ohene Agyapong.

However, in his resignation statement, Mr Kyerematen expressed concern that the Super Delegates' Conference was "strategically and tactically skewed in favor of one particular aspirant."

He teased his next course of action.

"In the coming weeks, after consulting with my family and other well-wishers, various stakeholders, and interest groups, I will provide an indication of the role that I will play in politics in Ghana."

Many believe the perennial aspirant would go independent this time.

According to Ben Ephson, this will not bode well for him because people who liked him did so mostly because of his NPP connection.

"I don't think he'll do well as an independent candidate," he added, adding that "it's up to him to make a political decision."

Mr Kyerematen, according to the pollster, "can remain in the party or decide to be with the party and stay."
