I got my stage name from my JHS headmaster – Joe Kuntani recounts how his journey into the world of comedy began

Joe Kuntani, a stage name used by Ghanaian comedian Robert Sarpong, who is better known by his real name, has recently shed light on the intriguing motivation for his choice of stage name.

The comedian and humorist spoke up about his beginnings in the field of comedy, relating stories from his life that have contributed to the development of his one-of-a-kind comic style.

He claims that the name was bestowed upon him by the principal of his junior high school. Despite the fact that he was unaware of it, we referred to him by that moniker. At one point, we were playing a match at Ejisu, and I was running behind schedule. He truly whipped me, and ever since then, that event has been playing over and over in my head; I just can't get that day out of my thoughts. Because of this, I decided to go with that name."

The Kumasi-born Ghanaian comedian who is known for his comedic talents has mentioned in interviews that, prior to entering the field of comedy, he worked in the field of motion graphic design.
"My approach is one of musical humor. I have been working in the field of motion graphic design for the past 9 years. I am no longer employed by any of Kumasi's media outlets, although in the past I did hold a position with one of them," he disclosed.

When asked about his early career, the musician and comedian revealed that he used to work behind the scenes, assisting and instructing others. However, if things improved for those people and they reached the spotlight, they turned their backs on him and consequently forced him to do his thing by himself. He gave this information when recounting the early days of his career.

"I was behind the camera helping others, but disappointment set in, so I had to do my thing on my own; what I had been teaching others," he added. "I had to do what I had been teaching others."

Joe Kuntani continued by saying, "I used to create content for others, but the moment they hit, they made me feel like I had no sense."
