Former Presidential Spokesperson under the Mills administration, Samuel Koku Anyidoho, has applauded the suspension of the interdiction of three senior officers implicated in the allegedly leaked audio recording of a conspiracy to remove the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
The Service announced on Thursday, September 7 the interdiction of Commissioner of Police (COP) George Alex Mensah, Superintendents Emmanuel Eric Gyebi and George Lysander Asare for their involvement in the aforementioned plot.
The three had appeared before a bi-partisan investigation committee of Parliament set up by the Speaker to, among others, investigate the authenticity of the audio recording.
However, according to a statement issued late Thursday night, the decision to interdict the three could compromise the ongoing investigation.
"In order not to compromise the ongoing investigation, the Police Administration has suspended their interdiction," according to a statement signed by ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, director of public affairs.
However, it emphasized that the Service will "begin disciplinary proceedings against them upon completion of the ongoing investigation by Congress."
Mr. Anyidoho, who is also a former Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), stated in a tweet, "Yesterday, I felt strongly that the ban was unnecessary. I am informed that the decision has been reversed."
