Inaki Williams could undergo surgery over knee pain

Inaki Williams, a striker for Ghana, is scheduled to go through a medical procedure in Spain, which may entail surgery, in order to alleviate a persistent pain that has been affecting his fitness over the previous few weeks.

The Athletic Bilbao forward cited fitness concerns as the reason for his withdrawal from Ghana's most recent squad to face Madagascar in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). This forced the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to immediately replace him with Ransford-Yeboah Korgnisdorfer.

Henry Asante, the Director of Communications for the Ghana Football Association (GFA), has verified that the player is actually not well and requires a significant amount of time to go through a medical process in order to prevent greater consequences in the future. This comes after various rumors and suspicions about the player's condition.

"The coaches were hoping to have him available since it is just a single match against Madagascar, but after engaging with both the player and the club, we have understood that this is the right time to give him rest and undergo a possible surgery," he said in an interview with Peace FM. "The coaches were hoping to have him available because it is just a single match against Madagascar."

According to the club, Williams has been playing for the previous six weeks despite not being in peak physical condition, and this needs to be addressed in order to prevent any potential complications in the future. As a result, we have come to the conclusion that it is in everyone's best interest to let the athlete continue his recovery and relax in Spain rather than return to the United States before the start of the new season.

"We think that it will be beneficial for the player, the club, and the country."

On June 18th, the Black Stars will play their fifth qualifying match for the Africa Cup of Nations in Antananarivo, which is the capital city of Madagascar.
